Our Testimonials

Our programs are life changing, but don't take our word for it. Check out what people are saying about us.

I didn’t know that eating healthy tastes so good!

 - Student in the NG rainbow class

"Students are totally involved in 'hands-on' cooking activities with professional Chefs and Nutritionists and  fitness activities with fitness trainers. The Nourishing Generations Team arrives on Friday afternoon with bins of food, utensils, aprons for each 'student chef' and tablecloths and cloth napkins so that students experience not only preparing the food, but eating their delicious food in a formal dining atmosphere. Many students had never used a cloth napkin or eaten a beet; this program provides opportunities for students to try fresh and local produce. Children love to make the recipes at home for their families; they beam with pride at their ability to contribute healthy meals for their family. Nourishing Generations is truly making a difference in our community now and is impacting future generations!"

 -  Melanie Sluggett, Director of Child Development/Extended Learning, Live Oak Elementary School District

I can honestly say that the six week sessions were one of the high points of our after school enrichment activities.

 - School administrator, NG pilot site

"Nourishing Generations are a pleasure to partner with. They do an excellent job of getting our youth excited about healthy foods and nutrition.  They do a great job of keeping everything practical, hands on, engaging and delicious. Chef Karen and Chef Rebecca are amazing teachers. One of my favorite things is hearing about youth recreating the dishes on their own."
– Rocky Allemandi, Encompass Transition Age Youth Programs

"By integrating nutrition education, physical fitness, cooking and mindful eating activities within each lesson, Nourishing Generations supports participant’s improved awareness of the importance of lifestyle choices and helps them learn to integrate these skills into their daily lives. Indeed, they are able bring these new skills and knowledge home to their parents and even to their community, where they have actively assisted site staff in “healthy food” fairs for their parents, friends and neighbors. By participating in Nourishing Generation’s fun and engaging curriculum, youth not only absorb, retain and share the lessons learned, but they eagerly ask for the return of “cooking class” every year and youth at our other sites, having heard word of this wondrous program, continuously ask when they will get to join in the fun!"

- Sheila Sanford, Family Services Program Manager, MidPen Housing

"I loved everything about this workshop. Karen and Rebecca make a great team and are clearly so passionate about what they do. My favorite part of the workshop is always seeing the support the youth give to one another and the community they're building through cooking! What a wonderful way to remind youth that their familial environment can be their "chosen family"-who can they laugh and eat good food with!"
- Shandara Gill, Encompass Transition Age Youth Programs

"Thank you for providing my son with the knowledge to make healthful food choices. He now reads the labels when we go shopping and, although he doesn’t always choose the healthiest items, he is at least aware and chooses fewer unhealthy alternatives. You have managed to take a topic that can sometimes be dull and boring and turn it into a fun, exciting educational opportunity.

- Parent of NG program participant

"The cooking workshops were amazing! It was so great to see the youth we work excited about learning skills related to healthy living and eating. As a staff member, I also learned a lot-everything from how to hold a knife, to chopping herbs, to what “superfoods” are. There was so much that I didn’t know I didn’t know."
- Kaitlyn Saia-Hicks, EncompassTransition Age Youth Programs

"Nourishing Generations are a pleasure to partner with. For the past 3 years, they have taught healthy cooking classes for youth aging out of the foster care system who have little experience cooking for themselves. They do an excellent job of getting our youth excited about healthy foods and nutrition. They teach practical skills in a way that is engaging and easy to learn. Every week over the summer, our youth not only learn new life skills from them, but also get to create a delicious meal and enjoy it in a supportive community environment. Chef Karen and Chef Rebecca are not only skillful and amazing teachers, they are also role models and mentors to the foster youth in our community."
