Creating a Healthy New Year
Updated: Mar 20
We would like to thank all that have supported NG in 2017 - our donors, volunteers, amazing staff, board members and program participants - a huge THANK YOU!! We wish you a healthy and happy new year!
Nourishing Generations has been growing yearly for the past ten years, bringing our program to more sites and expanding our programs. We have many requests for new program sites and are hoping to be able to have the funding available to fill these requests. But 2018 will bring some big challenges for NG. For the past several years, our educational program at all three of the elementary schools in the Live Oak School District here in Santa Cruz has been funded the federal government through the SNAP (food stamps) program. This program brought our classes to 165 3rd - 5th graders for five months of the school year. Unfortunately, the SNAP funding to the county has been cut by 50% for next year, which means zero funding for health education. A program for which we received $32,000 last year will receive $0 in 2018. That is a lot of funds to replace! We are moving forward with our fundraising plans and are hoping to be able to provide these programs to the Live Oak schools this coming year. We will need all of the help that we can get, so please consider helping with the funding of this program by making a tax-deductible donation to Nourishing Generations. Thank you so much for your support!
