Community Foundation Santa Cruz County Grant
We are so pleased to announce the award of a $6000 grant from Community Foundation Santa Cruz County to help to fund an 18 week program series at all three Live Oak School District's Elementary Schools in 2019. These nutrition education, hands-on cooking, and fitness programs for after-school students, grades 3-5 are designed to increase the nutritional knowledge, culinary skills, and fitness literacy of these students and their families in order to lessen the incidence of childhood obesity and diabetes in the Live Oak community.
Nourishing Generations had been able to fund these programs for several years through the Federal SNAP program, but with funding for nutrition education being slashed by the federal government, the future of this program was in doubt. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! to Community Foundation Santa Cruz County for stepping up to make sure that the students in the Live Oak School District would continue to receive this valuable learning opportunity.
